Layering jewelry works best when the final look still feels easy. I usually start with one piece that feels most like me, then add a second only if it brings softness or shape rather than noise.
Some days that means a necklace with a smaller companion chain. Other days it means leaving space and wearing only one piece well. The goal is not to wear more. It is to create balance.
I always come back to layering that feels natural with real clothes and real routines. When jewelry moves with you easily, it becomes part of your style rather than something you are constantly adjusting.
When I want layering to stay restrained, I start with the same foundation I describe in a signature jewelry wardrobe: a few strong pieces with enough presence to stand on their own. Layering works best when each necklace would still feel right worn by itself.
